When it comes to politics, I'm a former Libertarian turned independent. I've noticed that we seem to have a considerable amount of conservatives on this forum that are pretty moderate when it comes to social issues unless the gay bashing evangelicals' keyboards are broken.
I love differences of opinion and get absolutely furious when people let partisan politics keep them from acknowledging a good idea, simply because it's held by their "enemies" in the other party.
I personally feel that Bush is one of, if not the worst president of all time. With that said, I did like his idea for privatizing social security because at 24 years old, I've never looked at social security in its current state as a realistic part of my retirement and would much prefer an account with my name on it. I've been complaining about social security being a pyramid scheme since I was 15 or 16.
With his approval rating in the 20s and McCain's policies almost identical, I just wanted to start a thread where I could hear from the conservatives in here about any and everything that Bush has done that you consider to be a good thing.

Getting rid of Sadam, getting Libya to stop trying to aquire weapons of mass destruction, getting North korea to shelve their nuclear aspirations. Give me a while I'll think of more. And for the worst prsident give me a break, that title belongs to Jimmy Carter.

You've got a valid point with the Libyan nuclear situation, but North Korea still has nukes and I'd love to hear how getting rid of Saddam has made the world a better place. Thanks for the contribution!

Although I'm not a big fan of Bush, he signed the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act and since I have a child with a severe, life threatening peanut allergy, that's one thing I can say he did that was good.

In his first two years in office, Bush QUINTUPLED (raised 500%) the amount of money that the Clinton Administration spent on AIDS research, treatment, prevention and education... both in the U.S. and in African countries.

I agree with your point about partisan politics, there's nothing worse than that. I tend to lean conservative and libertarian myself, so I understand where you're coming from.
You should look at the differences between McCain and Bush however. I would disagree that their policies are almost identical. On the war in Iraq, yes, I would agree. McCain's much more liberal in other places however. He's historically been for amnesty (or whatever euphemism they'll give it), which I guess Bush was too. They differ on economics though pretty heavily, and McCain supports some form of that cap-and-trade nonsense as well. McCain, in general, is much more moderate than Bush. I'm voting McCain most likely, because Obama socialist leaning frighten me.
As for good things Bush has done, his tax cuts were actually good. The problem is that he didn't cut spending with it, which is economically stupid. So that's only 1/2 good I suppose.

I think that because of the way he mucked things up over the last 7.5 years, the one good thing I see out of that is that he has cause more people to want to vote and get involved with the democratic ideals of this country.

Why do you have to bring this crap into this thread? The OP isn't a Bush supporter, sounds like he doesn't like Bush at all. But he asked for posters to name anything good that Bush has done and you post this shit. Talk about trolling, this is a perfect example of it. And to think someone made you a mod. Actually, I think there's a lot of positive to it. More people rallying against Bush keeps people on their toes defending him with the end result being a lot more people paying attention to politics.
I might be willing to sacrifice another term of having a horrible president if it eliminated even 50% of the apathy & complacency towards politics in this country.

The problem is, McCain's desire for support from the evangelical right is eroding away at his moderate views as he abandons beliefs he once held in exchange for support from those that just don't think he's conservative enough.
I would agree with you that the Bush tax cuts are good IF they did more for lower income families. I remember his first round of tax cuts that gave the poor $600 and the rich $2000.
How do you suppose McCain intends to pay for the unfathomably devastating proposed corporate tax cuts that would decrease corporate tax bills by 29% (including $1.2B/year for Exxon alone)?

I'm not sure that Bush isn't worse than Carter. I'm an independent but tend to favor the conservative point of view on most things. One reason I'm independent is because I think only a narrow minded person votes one party line. There are good and bad views from both sides. I voted for Bush the first time because I didn't like that Gore's wife and VP running mate were so much for sensorship. Bush ended up having one of the worst sensorship regime's in the history of our country so in retrospect I made a bad choice. I didn't like how Bush manipulated the whole 9/11 attack into a one country war on Iraq. He handled the situation poorly by isolating the rest of the world instead of getting support to oust Hussein. I didn't like the direction Bush was heading so I voted against him when he ran a second time. Throw in the fact that he has no business speaking in public, and I think there's a strong case for him being worst president of all time, certainly worst 2 term president.
