Can you or anyone tell Colin Quinn that colinquinn.net is for sale right now on eBay. I would think he would want to own it since it's #1 on every search engine when you type in his name.
If not then Nick you should buy it and place your face in place of his. For fun. :p

Actually, I think that by law, Colin would have first dibs on this site... because if a domain is a living celebrity's name, it can't be used for any purposes other than to promote that celebrity (which is probably why the current owner is trying to get rid of it).
Also, I believe that the celebrity whose name it is doesn't have to pay any more than the standard domain registration fees... even if the domain is already in someone else's possession.
All of that legal bullshit sprung from a few court cases about 5-10 years ago, when Disney and a few other celebrities' names were used to create URLs that redirected the browsers to porn sites.

I could see the whole celebrity-porn link thing being a problem but I was upset at some cases I heard about a few years ago where a guy bought the domain names of some companies and tried to get them to buy them for high prices. The courts sided with the companies but I think that's bullshit. The guy with the idea was on top of his game, much like how whatever company it was dominated its' industry. What are your thoughts on this?

I think that if it is a person's name, then they should have the rights to the domain name...
But if it's a big corporation, they should have grabbed the domains before they even went public,
and whoever owns the domain name SHOULD make a good buck from it.
Like you said... the guy was on top of his game... he beat them to the punch...
he should have been rewarded for it.

Yeah, that guy had a brilliant idea, just like the founder of the company did at one time...the name thing I could see as it opens up the door for libel suits.

I don't think someone should get millions for a name but 10 or 20 thousand would be a nice profit

I look at it like stocks. They (the companies) were skeptical and didn't buy at the right time. Life's a bitch. I could see maybe a $1M cap on domain sales to already established companies but no cap on domain sales sold so the buyer can build a business around that domain name. The thing is, I believe they just GAVE the domains to the companies and I think that's bullshit.

Absolutely true... but if you bought nickdipaolo.com, then Nick would have the legal right to the domain... and if you used it for any purposes that Nick deemed "unworthy" to have his name attached to, he could sue you.

Colin never took the initiative to create his own site and someone else did. Now the site is #1 when you search for him and it looks like he could easily snatch it up for cheap.
If anything he's getting a good deal because all the hard work is already done for him.
If he's smart he'd buy it. Otherwise he'll have to buy it up from whomever buys it first and he'll most likely have to pay a lot more I would imagine. That's if he even cares.
The dude is also selling tracy morgan's site as well if you noticed.
