You keep stressing how it's just a rock. Remember how they used to stone people to DEATH? The rock they showed in the video is a blunt object weighing in at approximately 5 lbs. Sure, it's not likely that I would get hurt but the reward is nonexistent. I analyze every situation I'm in using risk VS reward. Even though the risk is low, there's absolutely nothing in the reward column! Say you were to fight back and the guy gets arrested, then does time in jail and comes back to take his revenge on the guy who, in his mind, put him in jail?

This isn't even really a fight or flight scenario- more like a fight or comply scenario. I would comply because taking the fight option gets you NOTHING! Who knows though, you might be one of those guys that looks for opportunities to get into fights and would love nothing better than to give a stranger a beatdown so you've got a story to tell. I on the other hand think fighting is stupid unless you're defending your life or the life of a loved one.

You're saying that I've only got one good point out of all the relevant ones I've made when you haven't made a single point the whole time and simply called the clerk a pussy. You would act on 'instinct'...that's brilliant. The only reason the guy is threatening you is because you're the only obstacle between him and the register. Most robbers have no intention of hurting clerks as they simply want the money.

A pork loin is definitely less threatening than a large rock but the 'risk VS reward' is still the same. ZERO REWARD. What don't you understand about that? You're probably just one of those guys that would like to be able to tell his friends that he beat a guy's ass that was trying to rob him. Even with the pork loin scenario, it is likely to lead to a physical altercation. You're taking someone who is thinking and acting irrationally and THREATENING them. They are already not thinking or acting right, so I don't want to be on the receiving end of what they would do to DEFEND THEMSELVES because there is NO REWARD to do so. ZERO. You've now put them in a situation where losing a fight against you is likely to result in them going to JAIL. People will go to drastic measures to avoid jail. You get fucking nothing and you're risking more than you realize.

We're not really talking about ignoring crime here. There is a time and place for fighting but it certainly isn't to defend your boss' $50 in the register. Just because I've advocated compliance when it comes to this lunatic's demands doesn't mean there aren't scenarios that I would fight to the death for.

NY gun laws are fucking insane. If you have a gun at home registered to you and your wife grabs it when you aren't there to defend herself from a rapist, she still gets a felony weapons charge (from what I've heard from a former boss that's from NY and owns a gun shop in NC).

I certainly believe in the right to carry a gun because the only people that will have them if it is outlawed are criminals and cops.
